The SMWS has wowed the judges again at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition with a haul of double gold medals for both our single cask malts, as well as bottlings from our Single Cask Spirits collection.
This year, Cask No. 72.62: Full-throttle sophistication was a star of the show, picking up the Best Independent Merchant Single Malt and a Double Gold medal, while Cask No. 38.24: Princes Street Gardens in summer was also named a Double Gold winning bottling.
Our Single Cask Spirits also shone at the competition, with rum bottling Cask No. R10.1: Carnival Concerto and armagnac Cask No. A2.2: Enchanted Woodland Stroll both scooping Double Gold prizes.
Double Gold award winning Cask No. 72.62: Full-throttle sophistication.
Cask Nos. 66.138: Deep, Rich And Burnt Fruit, 77.50: Another Order Of Magnitude and the third bottling of our blended malt, Peat Faerie all won Gold medals.
The 2019 SFWSC featured almost 3,000 entries from all corners of the world, vying for an award in a blind tasting carried out by a panel of expert judges. Since its introduction in 2000, the SFWSC has become one of the most respected and influential spirits competitions in the world, with a medal award recognised as an indicator of exceptional quality and craftsmanship.
The Society's third bottling of our blended malt, Peat Faerie, won a Gold medal.
“This is a really welcome and encouraging result, demonstrating that SMWS whiskies and spirits are celebrated for their exceptional quality and diversity,” said SMWS spirits director Kai Ivalo. “The fact that Peat Faerie also collected a Gold medal is recognition of the craft, attention to detail and quality of our blended malts range, while our Single Cask Spirits collection is also going from strength to strength.
“The San Francisco World Spirits Competition awards also reinforce our Tasting Panel’s expertise in finding truly exceptional, one-of-a-kind single cask whiskies, and demonstrate the consistent quality we offer to our members around the world.
“For non-members, what are you waiting for? The Society is the perfect place to start your journey into the magical world of single cask, single malt.”
